Although the Home Buyer Tax Credit; $8000 for first-time home buyers and $6500 for exiting homeowners for most buyers has expired, the closing date has been extended to September 30, 2010 if a buyer was under contract by April 30, 2010. Additionally, the tax credit is still available for members of the US military, foreign service and intelligence personnel. Any service member who has been on active duty for 90 days or more between January 1, 2009 and April 30, 2010 has until April 30, 2011 to sign an agreement to purchase a home and close by June 30, 2011.
